Asparagus Pesto Pasta

12 Oz whole wheat penne pasta, uncooked
1 Lb fresh asparagus
1/2 cup(s) basil pesto
5 Oz fresh spinach
1/4 Tsp kosher salt
1/2 Tsp ground black pepper
1 Pt cherry tomatoes, sliced in half

Instructions

Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil, add pasta, and cook until al dente. Set aside.

Chop dry ends off asparagus, and chop asparagus into 1-inch sections.

Prepare a bowl of ice water, and set aside.

In the top half of a steamer pan set, steam asparagus covered for 3 ½ minutes, until tender.

Transfer asparagus to ice water. Drain in a colander, and pat dry with paper towels.

In a food processor, pulse together basil pesto, spinach, 1/3 cup water, salt, and pepper.

In a large bowl, toss pasta, pesto, asparagus, and cherry tomatoes together.
