eating for heart health*

Eating a nutritious, well-balanced diet is one of the simplest, most effective ways of reducing your risk of heart disease, cancer, and other health problems.

Try these tips:
  • Reduce sodium (salt). Try to limit your intake to less than 2,400 mg per day, roughly the amount in a teaspoon of salt
  • Fill half your dinner plate with fruits and vegetables
  • Reduce added sugars
  • Reduce saturated fats
  • Unsaturated fat, from things like vegetable oils, is better. You can recognize saturated fats as being solid at room temperature, like butter or shortening.
