How To Skewer Grilled Kabobs

Food falling off your skewers creating a mess? Not cooking evenly or imposible to flip? Use the skewer tips below to make flavorful kebabs perfect every time. Before you begin, soak bamboo skewers in water for at least 20 minutes or apply cooking spray to metal skewers before adding food to prevent sticking.

 

Nothing Left Behind

Skewer skinny foods (like asparagus and zucchini strips) at both ends to make a raft so that nothing falls through the grates.

Easy Flippin'

Weave thinner strips of meat onto a single skewer for easier flipping.

No Escape

Add a piece of bread or lemon wedge on the end of the skewer to prevent softer food, like tomatoes or mushrooms, from sliding off the end. 

Even Cooking

Cut all food to a uniform size for even cooking.

X Pattern

Prevent coiled sausage or sliced onions from falling apart by adding two skewers in an X pattern.

Stop the Stick

When grilling fish, add thin slices of lemon between the fish pieces. This will prevent fish from sticking and add flavor during the cooking process.
