A Himalayan salt block is a large slab of pure salt that’s been hand-mined from the Western Himalayas. It contains some 80 trace minerals—giving the slab its distinct pink color and appearance. This natural salt provides a unique and fun way to cook and serve your food while adding incredible flavor!

Tempering a Salt Block: Preheat the salt block in stages to avoid it from cracking. Gradually add more heat at these intervals on the grill or in the oven:

  • 15 minutes at 200-225°F
  • 15 minutes at 275-300°F
  • 15 minutes at 350-375°F

Cooking and Grilling on a Salt Block:

  • Once heated, cook food directly on the slab—it will evenly distribute the heat while you cook.
  • Ideal for cooking vegetables, meats, seafood and just about anything else you enjoy making with a hint of salt. You can even bake cookies on the block!
  • Due to the block's lack of porosity, it transfers a milder flavor to your food, than if you were using ground salt.
  • Be careful when handling a hot salt block, as it keeps its temperature extremely well.

To Use as a Serving Platter (And impress guests):

  • At room temperature, the blocks are perfect for serving sushi and sashimi.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for about two hours and use as a gorgeous serving platter for fruits and veggies, cheeses or desserts.

Cleaning a Salt Block is Easy:

  • Allow the salt block to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Do not put the salt block in a dishwasher. Rather wipe with a clean, damp cloth or scrub with a mildly abrasive brush to remove any remaining food bits.
  • Avoid running your salt block under water or submerging in water.
  • There is no need to use soap or detergent, as it is naturally anti fungal and anti microbial, meaning no bacteria or germs can grow on it.
  • Dry with a clean towel or allow it to air dry.

How to Store:

  • When your salt block is not being used be sure to store it in a dry place.

Treated with care, your Himalayan Salt Slab will last for many years. When the time comes to replace your slab, you can break up what remains and shave it down to crystals to sprinkle over your food or into your bath.
