Shine on Texas

Shiner

When you have visitors come to Texas from out of town, it's your responsibility as a Texan to give them a true taste of who we are. You'd certainly introduce them to the nicest folks around; you'd obviously feed them real barbecue; and of course you'd hand them an ice cold Shiner Bock.

Over 100 years old, Spoetzl Brewery's (originally The Little Brewery) elegant and frothy brown go-to beer is as beautiful in a frosty mug as it is in its golden-labeled handsome bottle. Sure to impress, you can taste its perfected Bavarian/Texan history in every sip—a fact sure to have made Kosmos Spoetzl proud.

Rich Texas History
Dating back to pre-WWI, Shiner began making a name for itself among the vast German and Czech populated Central Texas region under the direction and care of Spoetzl. Its increasing popularity helped the Shiner, Texas brewery stay afloat through the difficult times of prohibition, coming out of the illegal production era as one of merely a handful of Texas breweries still in business. Shiner only grew outward in Texas after that, through WWII and Spoetzl's death at the half-century mark, and into hands of the city-folk. In the 90's, Shiner reached one million cases sold, as well as a sacred place in Texans' hearts.

Environmental Shiner
Shiner has been a model of environmentally friendly manufacturing facilities over the years. Last spring, Spoetzl Brewery hired leading energy intelligence company, EPS Corp, to develop a multi-million dollar wastewater treatment facility in Shiner. The ultimate efficiency and health of the Texas environment are the objectives, converting the brewery's waste products into natural fuel to power beer production in a perfect cycle, while significantly reducing carbon emissions. This fits right in line with the city of Shiner, which prides itself on being the cleanest little city in Texas.

Hey, Nice Shiner
Spoetzl Brewery makes several year round and seasonal brews, all popular in Texas and beyond. Some of the mainstays include:

  • Shiner Bock is the signature beer, dark and full, with a taste of Old Bavaria before a smooth Texas aftertaste—Spoetzl's bread and butter.
  • Shiner Blonde, with its golden Farrah Fawcett hue, has been brewed for over 100 years—this Bohemian brew is ideal for the dynamic Texas climate.
  • Shiner Hefeweizen is a gorgeous unpasteurized wheat beer, teaming with fresh citrus and thick froth. Munich, eat your heart out!
  • As warm weather approaches, try the made-for-spring seasonal, Dortmunder Style. High in hops and alcohol, this malty blend will satisfy a well-rounded Texas palate.
