Description
H-E-B Mi Tienda Hojas de Platano, or banana leaves, are beautiful and fun to cook with. Often used as a foil alternative for wrapping food for barbecuing, steaming or baking, they infuse whatever's inside with a pleasing aroma and taste. To make a "packet," place filling in the center of the leaf, fold it up like a handkerchief and secure it with toothpicks or place it seam-side down. Since the leaves are porous, it's a good idea to place packets in a pan to avoid unexpected drippage. Common in making many types of Hispanic, Asian and Caribbean dishes, you can even use them as a bright green serving platter for appetizers.
