H-E-B donates $100,000 to the American Red Cross and launches in-store tear pad campaign For victims of Texas flooding

SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 27, 2015) - H-E-B will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross and will begin accepting customer donations for the families and communities devastated by the recent Texas flooding and tornados. Today, all H-E-B and Central Market stores across Texas launched a statewide tear pad campaign offering customers an opportunity to support victims by donating in increments of $1, $3, or $5 to their total grocery bill.

All monies accepted will benefit the American Red Cross for Texas Flood and Tornado Relief, and will assist the organization to quickly respond to the needs of individuals and families impacted. One hundred percent of all funds received will go towards disaster assessments, medical care, clean drinking water, food and temporary housing.

"H-E-B has received numerous requests from customers about how they can help support victims and communities affected by the recent thunderstorms throughout Texas," said Winell Herron, group vice president of public affairs and diversity for H-E-B. "H-E-B's tear pad campaign offers a convenient and efficient way for our customers to make a difference in the lives of thousands of families in need."

Providing aid in times of disaster is the cornerstone of H-E-B's Helping Here philosophy, which promises to stand by communities during times of need. In the wake of the floods affecting H-E-B communities, company employees are distributing more than 5,000 Disaster Relief Cleanup Kits to residents returning to their homes. These kits contain most needed items like trash bags, paper towels, bleach, all-purpose spray cleaner, gloves, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Over 15 H-E-B stores near impacted areas are also providing direct relief and needed items. Additionally, H-E-B's Mobile Kitchen is activated and feeding those communities in need in the San Marcos area.

For 110 years, the company has demonstrated its commitment to communities in crisis by donating financial support, emergency supplies, drinking water and food, as well as providing efficient ways for customers to assist those affected by a natural disaster.
