  • Stovetop: Heat a large skillet over high heat for about 3 minutes. Spray skillet with nonstick cooking spray and add package of beef. Brown meat for 5 - 7 minutes, stirring frequently and breaking up pieces with a spoon. Add 2/3 cups of water, or for a spicier version, add a 10-oz can of diced tomatoes with green chiles. Bring carne guisada mixture to a boil, cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Thicken carne guisada with a mixture of 2 Tbsp flour or corn starch and 1 cup of water. Add slowly to skillet, then cook for another 2 minutes or until desired gravy thickness is reached.
