Description
Light to dark orange in color, persimmons can be enjoyed fresh as a snack or poached, roasted, baked, broiled or grilled. To prepare, cut out the top tomato-like stem (along with any tough skin that's below it) and slice it up, discarding any black seeds as you go. As persimmons ripen, their mildness takes on a fruity sweet taste, and they're especially popular in China and Japan, often called "the fruit of the Gods." Add some fresh persimmon to a salad or homemade salsa, or roast some slices alongside pork or chicken.
