About Banyan Foods
Founded in 1978, Banyan Foods began when Carol Chiu noticed that a growing Chinatown in Houston had no locally produced tofu, and she set out to change that. Today, Carol and co-owners Gary Chiu, Jimmy Chiu and Rafael Gomez are proud that Banyan Foods is the first tofu company in Texas and the largest one in the Southern US. Their tofu tamales are a reflection of the close relationship between Latin and Asian cultures — after all, there is no Chinatown in Houston without Latino ingenuity! Since 2003, Banyan Foods have been offered at H-E-B stores, helping to broaden the vegan market throughout Texas.
