Your provider may have referred you to us as part of your treatment plan. A registered dietitian will perform an initial assessment and discuss opportunities for establishing health goals that align with your care plan or personal health and wellness journey. An H-E-B dietitian can help you find and implement everyday solutions that meet your lifestyle and budget needs.
A registered dietitian (RD) must have completed a bachelor's degree and 1200+ hours in an accredited internship. Many RDs also have master’s degrees or specialty certifications. Your RD will practice evidenced-based nutrition and is required to keep up with continuing education, as well as, licensing and credentialing with the state. An RD can also opt to be called a nutritionist. Registered Dietitians (RD) are also called Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
Nutritionist is not a regulated term, which means anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. A nutritionist may not have the required level of schooling or certification to use this title. Nutritionists cannot use the term RD or RDN.
Your initial appointment will entail a 60-minute visit to help the RD better understand your goals/lifestyle/dietary patterns and habits. The RD is required to perform an assessment in order to recommend a plan of action that is suitable for you. The first visit may only focus on gathering information and building rapport.
Virtual consultations are a great way to experience nutrition counseling from the comfort of your own home. You can tune into a session with your RD via your smartphone or tablet. In this virtual setting, you can choose to share your pantry with your RD, take a virtual shopping tour, share screen and engage in your nutrition goals in an interactive way.
Not all insurance plans require a referral order from your doctor. Call us at 1-855-481-1149 to speak with our team about your coverage benefits.
For patients under a Medicare or Medicaid plan, nutrition counseling may be covered given the following parameters.
The RD will review goals established in the initial or previous consults and adjust as needed. This is an opportunity for you and your RD to start building meal solutions, product recommendations, recipes, techniques, and more to help you achieve health and wellness goals. The RD will use information collected in the initial visit to structure follow-up appointments.
Your RD will walk through nearly every section of the store with you to learn more about your dietary habits and food preferences and make product recommendations accordingly. A store tour will generally take place in follow-up visits. The RD will navigate each section and aisle with your needs in mind. You will review shelf tags, nutrition labels, ingredient lists, and packaging as pertinent to your needs.
In telehealth, the RD can help you build your curbside shopping list while sharing product recommendations that fit your dietary and lifestyle needs.
H-E-B RDs work with patients to create meal solutions. We believe very strongly in sharing the tools you can use to succeed in your health and wellness journey. The RD will work with your taste preferences, cooking style, cultural preferences, and dietary restrictions to provide meal solutions and ideas that you and your family will enjoy.
Your RD typically doesn't provide a "prepared/standard meal plan for 4 weeks" because this takes out the most important part of the meal plan, which is you! Your RD may recommend apps, websites, and resources along with the plans you created together to help with the meal solutions process.
H-E-B RDs believe that dietary and lifestyle habits can be positively influenced at the point of purchase. We view the supermarket as a playground to share with our fellow Texans. We can share our knowledge about food and nutrition in ways that are easy to implement in your day-to-day life through better-for-you swaps. Looking for a great tasting, nutrient-dense bread? We have you covered! Product recommendations are made with you and your family in mind. You can easily discuss the foods you're currently consuming or are interested in; in return, the RD will provide specific recommendations that satisfy your taste buds and health needs.
H-E-B Nutrition Services is also a team of diverse individuals. We are confident that you can find the right dietitian for your unique needs. We offer bilingual services, evening and weekend availability, and a wide range of specialty areas: diabetes, pediatric, geriatric, weight loss, food allergies, GI disorders, eating disorders, and so on.
