Slaton Bakery's Homemade Vanilla Wafers
Slaton Bakery's Homemade Vanilla Wafers

This is a love story for not just all-natural, homemade vanilla wafers, but also for the Wilson family. A West Texas favorite, Slaton opened its doors back in 1923 in Slaton, Texas, a quaint little town about 15 miles from Lubbock. Although ownership has changed hands a few times, the real love came when Chad Wilson’s grandparents were teenagers. His grandmother Ollie Mae would volunteer to go pick up bread at the bakery for her family. Turns out, she wanted to visit the baker’s helper, Chad’s grandfather, Barney Wilson. In 1943, Barney and Ollie Mae took ownership of the bakery, and the rest is rich in Texas history with their Homemade Vanilla Wafers.

The Jank BBQ Sauce
The Jank BBQ Sauce

From Weslaco, Texas, The Jank has a little bit of soul and a whole lot of flavor! Lamar Jones, owner and creator, moved to Texas from Florida after a visit to the Rio Grande Valley for a concert. He and his business partner lived in a small two-bedroom apartment, with little to no money and slept on the floor. They started experimenting with BBQ sauces to add flavor to their meals and finally came up with this one! That’s how The Jank was born—a term they coined to mean "Too awesome to describe." And as they say, it’s so good you can
put it on cake!

With a true Texas grit, Dwayne Clanton, son of Tom Clanton, has carried the West Texas tradition that now lives for over 60 years.  The sauce was originally created in 1946 to compliment the hickory-smoked Bar-B-Q, but has now crossed taste lines because it’s not just for grilling and barbecuing. Use their sauce on sloppy joes, meatloaf, burgers, BBQ chicken pizza and even as a dipping sauce!
