The 100-point rating system is used by a variety of published wine critics including Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and The Wine Advocate, to name a few. Because rating wine is very subjective and open to individual interpretation, the scores should be used as a guide for comparing similar wines. Remember that a high score does not mean that you will like the wine. The rating tells us that the wine is a very good or great representation of the varietal and style. Also remember that not all wines are rated, so a lack of a score does not mean a lack of quality. |
Score Range | Description |
95 - 100 | Best in class. These wines represent the greatest expression of their types and vintage. |
90 - 94 | Excellent. These wines are well made with outstanding characteristics. |
85 - 89 | Very good. These wines often offer great quality and value for the price. |
80 - 84 | Good. These are solid wines that are representative of their region and varietal. |
Below 80 | Not all critics will post reviews below 80. |
