6 Sunless Tanner Hacks

Find out how to get a gorgeous glow without the sunburn or orange streaks. Here are 6 tips for making your faux tan look authentically sun-kissed.

1. Exfloiate head to toe first.

To avoid splotchy or uneven fading, use an oil-free exfoliator before getting started. Oil-based exfoliators will create a barrier between your skin and the tanner, preventing the tanner from absorbing correctly.

2. Shower & Apply Lotion to Pigment-Absorbing Zones.

Avoid the dreaded self-tanner-induced orange elbows and knees by first applying lotion to these sensitive areas. Your hands, wrists, back of your heels, elbows, and knees tend to absorb more of the tanner than other areas, creating an uneven tan. Moisturizing these areas first will help prevent over absorption.

3.   Don’t Forget your Knuckle Creases.

Make sure to get tanner into the creases on your fingers by shaping your hand like a claw and then applying.

4. Scrub the palms of your hands with an exfoliatant after you’ve finished applying the tanner.

The grains in the exfoliator will wick away any excess tanner on your palms. Remember, your palms are naturally less tan than the backs of your hands so it’s okay if not much tanner sticks to your palms

5.  Use cotton swab to remove tanner from your nails and cuticles.

One by one, rub each nail bed until product is gone to prevent orange hands. Don’t forget your toe nails!

6. Use baby body wash to maintain your tan.

Harsh soaps can strip away self tanner. Use gentler baby soap to keep your tan from fading faster.
