Upside Down Pear Spice Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 Concord pears, peeled, cut in half, cored and sliced thinly
  • 15.2 oz Duncan Hines Signature Perfectly Moist Spice Cake Mix
  • 3/4 cup Half and half
  • 1/2 cup Salted butter, melted
  • 3 Large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Liberally spray a standard 9-inch cake pan with nonstick spray.
  3. Evenly arrange pear slices in a circle in the pan so they touch and face the same direction.
  4. Empty box spice cake mix into a bowl add half and half, melted butter and eggs together. Whisk until batter is smooth.
  5. Pour batter gently and evenly over pear slices and smooth out evenly in the pan.
  6. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of cake pulls out clean.
  7. Cool cake for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Place a serving platter upside down on cake pan. Using a pot holder to hold hot pan, place other hand on platter and quickly flip both so cake unmolds onto platter. Slice and serve with whip cream or ice cream if desired. To serve, place a cake plate on top of cake pan once cooled and quickly flip cake over so it unmolds from pan onto plate.
  9. Cut and serve cake with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
