Portobello and Beef Patty Melt

Serves 4
Ingredients
- 3/4 lb 96% lean ground beef
- 1 tsp Ground black pepper, divided use
- 1 tsp Canola oil
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Thyme
- 4 Portabello mushroom(s), gills removed
- 4 Whole wheat sandwich thin bread
- 1 Fresh garlic clove(s), peeled
- 4 Jalapeño jack cheese slices
- 1 Large tomato, sliced
Instructions
- Position rack in upper third of oven; preheat broiler. Line a broiler pan with foil and set aside.
- Gently form beef into 4 patties, season with ½ teaspoon pepper.
- Mix oil, Worcestershire, thyme, and remaining pepper in a small bowl. Drizzle over mushrooms.
- Place patties and mushroom caps on prepared pan. Broil until cooked through, 3 - 4 minutes per side.
- Meanwhile, toast bread. Rub each slice of toast with the garlic clove.
- Place one mushroom cap on each patty and top with a slice of cheese. Remove foil from sheet pan and place on pan. Broil until cheese is just melted, 30 - 60 seconds. Transfer to toasted buns and add toppings as desired.
