Portobello and Beef Patty Melt

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 3/4 lb 96% lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp Ground black pepper, divided use
  • 1 tsp Canola oil
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Thyme
  • 4 Portabello mushroom(s), gills removed
  • 4 Whole wheat sandwich thin bread
  • 1 Fresh garlic clove(s), peeled
  • 4 Jalapeño jack cheese slices
  • 1 Large tomato, sliced

Instructions

  1. Position rack in upper third of oven; preheat broiler. Line a broiler pan with foil and set aside.
  2. Gently form beef into 4 patties, season with ½ teaspoon pepper.
  3. Mix oil, Worcestershire, thyme, and remaining pepper in a small bowl. Drizzle over mushrooms.
  4. Place patties and mushroom caps on prepared pan. Broil until cooked through, 3 - 4 minutes per side.
  5. Meanwhile, toast bread. Rub each slice of toast with the garlic clove.
  6. Place one mushroom cap on each patty and top with a slice of cheese. Remove foil from sheet pan and place on pan. Broil until cheese is just melted, 30 - 60 seconds. Transfer to toasted buns and add toppings as desired.
