Unsaved Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 8 oz Unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar, plus more as needed for topping cookies
  • 1/2 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp Sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp Fine sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 Large egg
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp Almond extract
  • 2 1/2 cups All purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300ºF. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer add butter, oil, sugars, sour cream, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Cream on medium speed until light and fluffy, scraping down sides of bowl as needed.
  3. Add egg to butter mixture, and mix for another 2 minutes or until fully incorporated.
  4. Add vanilla and almond extracts, and mix for another minute to fully incorporate.
  5. Add half of flour and mix on lowest speed until flour is fully incorporated. Add remaining flour and continue mixing until batter is smooth and flour has been absorbed.
  6. Scoop batter onto prepared pan approximately 2 inches apart. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until cookies are just fully cooked but not browned.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle a little more granulated sugar over each cookie. Allow cookies to cool completely before serving or storing in an airtight container.
  8. Chef's Note: Makes approximately 12 to 24 cookies depending on size of scooper used.
