Unsaved Maple Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 3 cups Cake flour, plus more for dusting surface of dough
  • 2 tsp Double acting baking powder
  • 4 oz Salted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups Low fat cultured 1% milkfat buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450˚F.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Whisk to combine.
  3. Add butter and mash into dry ingredients until butter is evenly dispersed into flour. A pastry cutter is great for this.
  4. Add buttermilk and maple syrup and mix together to combine until dough forms into a ball.
  5. Place dough ball onto a flour dusted cutting board and roll out dough to 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Using a circular cookie cutter cut out biscuits and place onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
  7. Repeat this process, rolling out more biscuits with leftover dough pieces until all dough is used up.
  8. Brush tops of biscuits with buttermilk and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Serve while still warm.
