Handmade Southern Style Sour Cream Dumplings

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp Morton Coarse Kosher Salt, plus more as needed to season
  • 1 tsp Double acting baking powder
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted butter, very cold, cut into very small cubes
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream
  • 1 Large Eggs
  • 2 tbsp Gourmet Garden Lightly Dried Chives, plus more for garnish as needed
  • 2/3 cup H-E-B Half & Half

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl combine flour, salt, baking powder, butter, sour cream, egg, chives and half and half. Mix to combine into a thick sticky batter.
  2. Allow batter to set up by refrigerating 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. When ready to make dumplings, using two spoons, scoop up a spoonful of batter and using second spoon scrape/drop each dumpling into hot broth or any hot soup.
  4. Allow dumplings to cook 7 to 12 minutes submerged in liquid or until they are puffy and cooked through.
  5. Chef's Note: These are dumplings I use whenever I am looking to make a hearty chicken soup. You can also poach these in any hot stock for a quick hearty meal.
