Description
Top Shelf Expanded Shale helps to loosen soils dense with clay or sand. Top Shelf Expanded Shale is great as a hydroponic growing medium. The size of the shale helps create air flow providing oxygen critical to plant growth. Top Shelf Expanded Shale is a porous clay that is fired at high temperatures and never breaks down. After that process, the expanded shale may hold up to 38% of its weight in water. Adding this product to potted plants will help reduce the frequency of watering. Only one application is needed to improve your soil’s drainage permanently.
- Directions for Use: 1. To break up heavy clay or sandy soil till in a 3 inch layer of Top Shelf Expanded Shale along with 2 inch - 3 inch of Top Shelf Compost to a depth of 6 inches - 8 inches. Improving soil in this way will increase the flow of oxygen to the root system of your plants. 2. To use with potted plants mix 1/3 Top Shelf Expanded Shale with 2/3 Top Shelf Potting Soil. 3. To use with hydroponic systems add the desired amount of Top Shelf Expanded Shale to allow oxygen to penetrate the plants root system. Top Shelf Expanded Shale is very stable and rarely affects the pH of the nutrient solution. 4. 4. To use as a biofilter in outdoor water gardens or koi ponds. (Use only as directed).
