  • 1 Serving: 1/4 cup oats; 1-1/2 cups water. 4 Servings: 1 cup oats; 4 cups water. Stove Top: 1. Boil water. 2. Slowly stir in oats. 3. Cook about 5 minutes over medium heat (or until oatmeal begins to thicken). 4. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes. Steel cut oats are best prepared on the stovetop. Microwave preparation is not recommended. Overnight Slow Cooker Steel Cut Oats: 1 cup steel cut oats; 2 cups of your favorite dried fruit; 4 cups water; 1/2 cup half and half. In a slow cooker, combine all ingredients and set to low heat. Cover and let cook for 8 to 9 hours. Stir and serve. Serves 4.
