Description
The Chardonnay vines, a Burgundian clone, was chosen by Drew for it's flavor profile and tenacity to ripen well in the Texas sun. For this vintage, both primary and malolactic fermentation took place in French Allier barrels, aging sur lies, allowing silky, subtle mouthfeel balanced with nuances of toasted oak. Yellow apples and Meyer lemon fruit dominate, while white cloves and warm vanilla notes finish. This wine will pair wonderfully with any dinner of white fish or shellfish as easily as chicken pasta or grilled white meat.
Reserve Chardonnay comes from three different vineyards: two from the High Plains and one Hill Country. Harvested from vines spanning 6 to 35 years old, Becker Vineyards can boast this is from the oldest Chardonnay vines still in existence in the state of Texas. Fermentation and aging is selected to highlight each vineyard's characteristics. Current New World Chardonnays are often buttery or oaky; Becker's approach with these wines maintains the classic, Old World style, complete with large aroma profiles, subtle, elegant fruit and a full, soft mouthfeel.
