Successes, Achievements & Educational Initiatives In 2003, H-E-B Received Houston Minority Business Councils, Minority Business Development Award for the second year. This award is presented to the corporation with the most significant increases in business awarded to Minority Business Enterprises. Received the Tecumseh - Father of Diversity Award by the Houston Native American Chamber of Commerce for the second year in a row, which is presented to the corporation encouraging strength through the unity of people and diversity. Was selected by the San Antonio Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) as the Corporate Partner of the Year. Was nominated by the San Antonio NAWBO Chapter as the 2003 NAWBO National Corporate Partner of the Year. In 2002, H-E-B Received Houston Minority Business Councils, Minority Business Development Award, which is presented to the corporation with the most significant increases in business awarded to Minority Business Enterprises. Awarded the Tecumseh - Father of Diversity Award by the Houston Native American Chamber of Commerce. This award is presented to the corporation encouraging strength through the unity of people and diversity. Increased dollars spent with minority and women businesses by 40 percent and increased the number of 1st tier minority and women-owned business by 6 percent. Received the Corporation of the Year Award from the Central and South Texas Minority Business Council for the corporation investing the most time, energy and sponsorship for the benefit of the minority membership. Was named African American Business Corporate Advocate by the San Antonio Black Business Exposition in recognition of outstanding corporate community service to the African American business community. Selected Aguirre Building Systems, a Hispanic American general contractor, to build the H-E-B Information Solutions Disaster Recovery Center. Worked with ConReal Inc. , an African American general contractor, to build the replacement Friendswood H-E-B store. Chose Incore Construction Inc., an Hispanic American general contractor to build the new H-E-B Quality Assurance Laboratory. Our Supplier Diversity initiative also supports supplier education through course sponsorships and coaching minority and women-owned businesses. Served as statewide sponsor of the Community Minority Business Advancement (CMBA) Program. The CMBA Program, taught by the University of Texas at Austin, provided training opportunities to over 160 entrepreneurs in Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio. The program included a course on how to conduct business with major corporations, taught by Glenn Murray, H-E-B Director of Supplier Diversity. |
