2. How will this transaction benefit shoppers in Central Texas?
Central Texas is growing fast and this is part of H-E-B’s long-term plan to keep up with that growth. By acquiring these store locations, we will serve these neighborhoods more quickly than we could by building new stores from the ground up. And with more stores to choose from for
H-E-B shoppers, that means reduced customer traffic at our existing stores so shoppers can get home faster.
But it’s about more than just getting home faster – it’s also about our more than 100-year tradition of giving back to the communities we serve.
With these new H-E-B stores – and all of the Partners who will work there – the surrounding neighborhoods are gaining a group of passionate and committed volunteers who will give their time and energy to serving the local community. As just one example, we will be starting our Classroom Champions programs in these new stores. It’s the state’s oldest and largest business-education partnership and it encourages interaction between H-E-B stores and their neighboring schools via in-store tours, classroom presentations and one-on-one mentoring. And that’s just the beginning. Customers will begin to see H-E-B giving back to their neighborhoods in all the ways they have come to expect from our company.
When it comes to West Lake Hills, we are excited to finally be able to offer the H-E-B experience where there previously wasn’t one. Until now, the nearest H-E-B to West Lake Hills was more than five miles away. We have been hearing loud and clear from the people of this community for years that they want their own H-E-B – and we are thrilled that now we are able to give them what they have been asking for.
Best of all, people who already shopped at these stores will enjoy them even more when they re-open with an increased product selection and an amazing new assortment of the freshest foods, with all of it available at H-E-B’s lower prices.
3. What are H-E-B’s plans for each of these stores?
First of all, when each store re-opens as an H-E-B, shoppers will experience immediate savings when they see our lower prices.
Additionally, we plan to double the number of people working at each of these stores than were there under the previous ownership, meaning even better customer service for shoppers.
Following are planned re-opening dates for each store that is part of this change:
| (a) |
3750 Gattis School Road
Round Rock, TX 78664 |
This store will re-open as an H-E-B in early December, ready to serve Round Rock and surrounding areas.
| (b) |
12860 Research Blvd.
Austin, TX 78750 |
This store will re-open as an H-E-B in early December, ready to serve northwest Austin and Williamson County.
| (c) |
701 Capital of Texas Highway
West Lake Hills, TX 78746 |
The people of West Lake Hills and surrounding areas have been asking for their own H-E-B for a long time. And now, we are thrilled to be able to give them what they have been asking for.
This store will re-open in February 2008. It will take longer to renovate due to its limited space relative to the number of customers it serves. Our remodel plan needs to make efficient use of space in order to prepare the store to serve the area’s shopping needs. From all-new shelving systems to adding checkout lanes, improving the product selection and expanding the assortment, the store will require quite a bit of work to make the best use of its space.
This store will take longer to remodel, but it will be worth the wait.
When it re-opens, shoppers will experience the best H-E-B has to offer, including the freshest produce, artisan breads made from scratch in the bakery, all-natural and organic meats, wild and fresh-caught seafood, Central Market Café on the Run, European-style florist, international cheese shop and much more – all of it offered at H-E-B’s lower prices.
| (d) |
1819 South Pleasant Valley Road
Austin, TX 78741 |
This location has already been closed by Albertsons. Additionally, the H-E-B on Riverside Drive currently serves this area so we do not plan to re-open the Albertsons store at this time. However, this location will play a role in our plan to rebuild the nearby H-E-B as we continue to invest in serving this neighborhood.
| (e) |
7100 Hwy 290 West
Austin, TX 78736 |
This location has already been closed by Albertsons. Additionally, with an H-E-B already located directly across the street, we do not have a need to re-open this Albertsons store. We have not yet determined what we will do with this property for the long term.
4. Why is H-E-B acquiring Albertsons locations in Austin and Round Rock?
Central Texas is growing fast and this is part of H-E-B’s long-term plan to keep up with that growth. By acquiring these store locations, we will serve these neighborhoods more quickly than we could by building new stores from the ground up. And with more stores to choose from for H-E-B shoppers, that means reduced customer traffic at our existing stores so shoppers can get home faster.
5. What happens to the Albertsons employees?
We’re going to double the number of people serving these stores so it becomes important to hire as many Albertsons employees as we can. That’s why we are immediately starting the process of meeting individually with each and every Albertsons employee in the Austin area.
Our plan is to hire any Albertsons employee who meets the high standard for being an H-E-B Partner. Many of them have strong relationships with their customers and communities they serve and can be a real asset to our team.
More of the good news for Albertsons employees is that their opportunities to work across Central Texas are greatly increased with H-E-B. They will have more stores to choose from and an increased variety of positions available for their consideration.
We are also setting up a dedicated job line for anyone in the community who is interested in employment at these stores. That phone number is (512) 421-1019.
6. I currently rely on Albertsons for my prescription medication. Will I be able to get my prescriptions filled during the transition?
Yes. We have made arrangements for transferring prescriptions safely, securely and confidentially from each of the Albertsons stores to a nearby H-E-B Pharmacy. Your H-E-B Pharmacist looks forward to meeting you and serving your wellness needs. Please read on to find out how your prescription will be transferred based on which Albertsons pharmacy you currently use. Additional details about transferring prescriptions are available at your current Albertsons pharmacy.

Since the nearest H-E-B to this location is more than five miles away, customers will be able to get all of their prescriptions filled at a temporary H-E-B Pharmacy trailer that will be located in the parking lot during the transition. Due to the longer time it takes to set up a Pharmacy trailer, we expect records to be transferred with the trailer fully operational in mid-October. Until that time, the Albertsons pharmacy in West Lake Hills will be able to continue serving your needs.
The H-E-B Pharmacy trailer will be able to give our Pharmacists access to all patient records and offer customers an assortment of the most popular over-the-counter products. The Pharmacy trailer will be safe and secure, and all patient records will be entirely confidential.
For more information on your Albertsons pharmacy transition, please visit your current Albertsons pharmacy where you can read a posted letter that offers additional details.
7. Why is the West Lake Hills store going to be closed for renovations longer than the others?
This store will take longer to renovate due to its limited space relative to the number of customers it serves. From all-new shelving systems to adding checkout lanes and improving the product selection, the store will require quite a bit of work to make the best use of its space.
We promise it will be worth the wait.
When the store re-opens, shoppers will experience the best H-E-B has to offer, including:
- Expanded produce department with a large selection of organic fruits and vegetables
- Scratch bakery with artisan breads
- Expanded market with all-natural and organic meats
- Wild and fresh-caught seafood
- Central Market Café on the Run
- European-style florist
- H-E-B Cooking Connection
- International Cheese Shop
- Sushiya sushi bar
- Healthy Living department

And much more...all of it offered at H-E-B’s everyday low prices.
