Photos to be featured in first H-E-B Health and Fitness Calendar available now in stores
SAN ANTONIO, TX – Jan. 14, 2009 – Before a gathering of friends, family and a proud community, 12 San Antonio children will be recognized as the winners of a photography contest created by H-E-B, Kraft Foods and Cologate-Palmolive to promote health and fitness education. The children, all participants in the Greater San Antonio YMCA After-School program, were invited to capture photos that reflect an active and healthy lifestyle. The winners and their photographs will be showcased at a press event to be held on January 14 at 2 p.m. at the H-E-B Plus! store located at 6818 S. Zarzamora.
Celebrated NFL Running Back Priest Holmes, in partnership with representatives from H-E-B, Kraft Foods and Colgate-Palmolive, will be on-hand to congratulate the winners and present each with a special recognition plaque and a $100 H-E-B Gift Card. The recognition ceremony will be emceed by Texas Longhorn great and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Wane McGarity.
“I want to thank H-E-B, Kraft Foods and Colgate-Palmolive for creating this opportunity for our children to learn about the importance of health and fitness,” said Tony Penn, YMCA of Greater San Antonio Vice President of Financial Development. “What we found is that the children were getting their brothers, sisters, parents and friends involved, which had a far-reaching and positive effect on our community.”
To kick-off the contest, H-E-B, Kraft Foods and Colgate-Palmolive sponsored a series of photography seminars for the youth, ages eight to 12, in the YMCA After-School program at which they learned how to share their views of the world through photography. In addition to gaining valuable photography experience, each participant received a digital camera to keep as a result of their participation.
“Promoting health and fitness education among today’s youth is a key priority for H-E-B as a company,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B group vice president, public affairs and diversity. “This program is a great way to encourage children to lead an active lifestyle.”
The winning photographs were selected from close to 200 entries, and will be published in the first 2009 H-E-B Health and Fitness Calendar. The calendar will be available at H-E-B stores for free with the purchase of participating Kraft or Colgate-Palmolive products.
