For more than 100 years, our commitment and involvement in the community has been recognized as an important part of the way we do business. It's our way of saying thank you for allowing us to be your neighbor. Each day we strive to earn, build and maintain a positive relationship of trust, creating a tradition of caring that has come to be known as H-E-B's Spirit of Giving. In this spirit, the company has contributed five percent of its pre-tax earnings to public and charitable programs since the 1930s, and remains one of the few companies in the nation to give at such a level. Announcing the 2008 Excellence in Education Winners! The H-E-B Food Bank Assistance Program In the fight against hunger and malnutrition, the H-E-B Food Bank Assistance Program supports 21 food banks and serves more than 8,000 organizations throughout Texas and Mexico. This initiative is nationally recognized as one of the strongest and most committed food bank assistance programs in the United States and Mexico, with more than 28 million pounds of product donated (valued in $32 million) in the year 2000 alone. Feast of Sharing Holiday Dinners The Feast of Sharing Holiday Dinners are the highlight of H-E-B's year-round effort to combat hunger throughout Texas and Mexico. Begun in Laredo and Corpus Christi in 1989, H-E-B now serves free hot holiday meals to the hungry, the needy and the lonely in 27 communities throughout Texas and Mexico. The Spirit of H-E-B Trailer The Spirit of H-E-B trailer plays an essential role in transporting the company's relief supplies to communities that have been thrown into crisis or hit by national disasters. The trailer is often joined in its efforts by the H-E-B Eddie Garcia Mobile Kitchen, which provides on-site food preparation. Presented to Charles Butt in 1987, the trailer was purchased through the generous contributions of the Partners in the Transportation Department. United Way H-E-B has been involved in United Way since the 1970s through corporate giving and store campaign fund raisers. The company is proud to help support such programs and encourages its Partners to become actively involved by making contributions and volunteering their time and energy.
